Welcome to the Wings Golf Society website.
This society was formed in 1976 by the late Christy O’Connor Jnr., the late Larry Walsh, the late Myles Murphy and late Tommy Ryan. It was created initially to raise money for children with learning disabilities. The €1.8 million milestone has now been exceeded.
In the last year €35,000 was raised and divided amongst over 30 Charities dispersed across the areas where the society has the outings. The grand total of €1,895,710 donated to charities by Wings to date is a result of Membership Fees, Sponsorship, and the outstanding support of the Golf Clubs who allow us the courtesy of their great courses. The society is voluntary and overheads are kept to a bare minimum so as to maximise the donations to charity. Since its formation the Society has benefitted from the generosity of the following courses:
Abbeyleix, Ballybunion, Ballyclough, Ballykisteen, Ballyliffen, Ballyneety, Bantry Bay, Beaufort, Carne, Castlegregory, Castleisland, Castletroy, Ceann Sibeal, Charleville, Connemara, Cork, Cregmore Park, Doonbeg, Dromoland, Dundrum, East Clare, Ennis, Esker Hills, Fermoy, Galway, Gort, Killarney, Lahinch, Nenagh, Old Head Kinsale, Oughterard, Rathdowney, Ring of Kerry, Roscrea, Shannon, Tralee, Waterville, Westport, Woodstock.
It has approximately 18 outings each year and courses scheduled during the 2026 season include: Ballybunion, Lahinch, Connemara, Galway, Dromoland, East Clare, Castletroy, Shannon, Woodstock, New Forest, Gort, Newcastlewest, Rathdowney.
It should be noted that 7 of the courses we play are ranked among the top 100 courses in Ireland by Golf Digest Volvo 2014.
Since 1985 it has hosted a two day Golf Classic at Shannon Golf Club. This takes place every year on the first weekend in July and has been an outstanding success. With the support of generous sponsors, this tournament has been the major generator of funds for Wings over the years.
The current President and founding member Larry Walsh passed away on 22nd October 2013. His passing is a great loss and sorrow to us all.
We will continue the good work that Larry and the other founding members began in 1976.
Current membership fee is €300 which is exceptional value for money. New members are always welcome.
